Guy is one of the most experienced criminal defense lawyers in Charleston, South Carolina. His nine-year service as a Public Defender in Charleston County provided him with extensive experience representing clients in General Sessions Court, South Carolina’s main criminal trial court. As a public defender, Guy’s caseload averaged 250 cases and he brought over 80 cases to trial. He brought six cases involving murder charges to trial and other trials involved charges of sexual assault, armed robbery, and various drug and property charges.
In private practice since September of 2002, Guy represents clients charged with most types of offenses (see below). His practice is active at all levels of government including Federal Court. Guy also represents college students with offenses ranging from minor in possession of alcohol, noise violations, and disorderly conduct in municipal court, to more serious drug offenses in state criminal court. Guy is often successful in helping students avoid convictions altogether by negotiating for appropriate alternative treatment programs.
Guy has extensive training in forensic crime scene analysis, the use of investigators, child sexual assault allegations, search and seizure law and trial tactics and techniques. He is a graduate of the Western Trial Advocacy Institute and is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL).
